Update On… 3in4 Need More

Are you looking for some new ideas to help you in marketing long term care planning?

If your answer is yes, then a good solution is to join the 3in4 Need More campaign. This campaign focuses on increasing consumer awareness about the need for long term care insurance, and it provides a proven approach to help explain to clients and prospects the need for planning.

Membership—which is free—is open to all. Supporters include producers across multiple senior product lines, brokerages, LTC insurance carriers, financial advisors, CPAs, elder law attorneys, and associations—including NAIFA and NAHU.

The campaign is under the direction of the 3in4 Association, a nonprofit 501(c)(6). This is a grassroots campaign. Everyone involved volunteers their time, and every dollar raised supports marketing programs and outreach education. The association was formed to embrace sponsoring organizations, of which there are more than 18, including insurance carriers, insurance agencies and care providers. In 2011 long term care advocate, geriatric care coordinator and author Dr. Marion Somers joined the campaign as official spokesperson, promoting the 3in4 message on her annual bus tour in major cities, on television and in the press.

Beyond increasing consumer awareness about the need for LTC insurance, the 3in4 Need More campaign focuses on three other objectives: (1) supporting Congressional moves to provide additional tax deductions or rebates to help people better afford long term care products; (2) encouraging others in industry, education and government to take part in the campaign, making use of the logo and other visuals to spread the word; and (3) educating the public on private programs and federal entitlement options.

Why 3in4?

The campaign can assist you in marketing LTC insurance marketing and better educating your clients about the need for this protection.

• The 3in4 smart app, which was launched in October, contains planning calculators for consumers.

• An electronic version of the group’s consumer booklet—The Essentials for Long Term Care Planning—is now available. It contains 16 chapters with helpful information about all facets of long term care planning—from understanding the risks and designing a care plan to finding products and understanding payment options. Especially helpful is the chapter explaining veterans’ benefits, which can be used when discussing the appropriate combination of benefits.

In addition to the electronic version, a quantity of booklets can be customized with your bio and contact information (for a fee, of course). So, in addition to emailing the booklet before your client meeting, you can provide a printed version at the meeting.

• A collection of 30- and 60-second radio and television public service announcements (taped by Dr. Marion Somers) is available to be sent to clients to reinforce a sale and to prospects to convince them to meet with you. Among the topics available are: “What Medicare Doesn’t Cover,” “A Women’s Issue,” “Rates,” and more. These announcements can also be posted on your website.
